Like every Jaguar to carry the XK badge, the XK60 is all about performance with style – plus a large helping of individuality. Jaguar’s special edition comes complete with a range of styling features including dramatic 20" Senta alloy wheels, a sporty alloy gear knob and selector-gate surround, plus distinctive body enhancements including a new front spoiler and rear valance panel, chrome finished side vents and bright upper and lower front grille meshes, special tailpipe finishers and sill appliqués on both sides of the car.

The XK60 special edition is available from £60,995 (UK only).
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the iconic XK 120, Jaguar has launched an addition the XK range, aptly named the XK60.

I am pleased to report that during XK60 the XK drivers raised the grand sum of £920 for the Children in Need appeal, writes Grahame Bull. This was achieved by taking donations from members of the public in return for a couple of laps as a passenger in either an XK, or another Jaguar model from the same era, around Goodwood circuit. To add to this fine achievement, Neil Fender, Director and Head of Business Development for LloydsTSB, doubled the amount raised by the drivers, making a

grand total of £1840. The official presentation on behalf of the drivers from the Vredrestein JEC XK Jaguar Championship and the XK Club was made at Milestones museum in Basingstoke, the south’s main venue on Children in Need night, November 14 and was enjoyed by millions of BBC viewers.

Online Buyers Beware

Many people are aware, but not all, so this bears repeating. The internet is a wonderful tool, but it is also rife with fraud and scams. So, if you see a gorgeous XK advertised on a website at a price way below its true worth, often with a story carefully contrived to make you think the vendor may not know its value or may be too desperate to sell, beware! It is extremely unlikely that the ‘vendor’ has the car at all or has ever seen it – he has almost certainly obtained photographs via the internet (probably from a past legitimate advert for the car) and he is probably not in the UK (or wherever he claims to be) at all. He may have a UK mobile phone, which may well be stolen, and in most cases he is actually in Nigeria.

The trick is to tell you that you can’t see the car for two weeks, that hundreds of people are interested but that if you send a deposit (or even the full amount) he will keep it for you. Of course, you will never see the money again – and he will probably collect from quite a few hopeful buyers. The police are not interested because there is nothing they can do – the ‘vendor’ always turns out to be in a third world country where they can’t touch them. CAVEAT EMPTOR!!

If you do want to pursue, do so with the utmost caution. First demand details such as chassis, engine, gearbox numbers and registration details – chances are he hasn’t the faintest idea what they are – and ask for more photos, including specific items...

If you have had a car stolen – or a bad experience online – let us know, so that we can warn other members. Alternatively, we would also like to here from you if you have had a good online experience or if you have any online buying tips.  Contact: abigail@xkclub.com with your stories.

C-type 60th

We are delighted to have been asked by the Midland Automobile Club, the Club which runs the famous Shelsey Walsh hillclimb, to organise a gathering and tribute for the 60th anniversary of the C-type next year.  Originally called the XK120C, and always known as this at the factory, the C-type played a massive part in the success of Jaguar as a company on the world stage.

The celebrations will take place at the MAC's main Shelsey meeting on June 5.  Situated just a few miles from Worcester, Shelsey is easy to get to for UK members and is steeped in history, being the oldest motor sport venue in the world still in use today.

We will also be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the E-type that day as well, with a class, a parade and so on.  It's going to be a busy year for E-types and XKs are extremely welcome at all the E-type events we are involved in, including the main one at the Silverstone Classic on July 22-24.

Shelsey Scores

Our annual XK Club Day was well supported and everyone appeared to approve of the venue in spite of the rather miserable weather.  The Peacock did us proud on the Friday evening, the Saturday Run was, perhaps, the finest route we have ever done.

XKR-S Stuns

The XKR-S is an amazing modern Jaguar.  A lot of the news from Jaguar is positive and the product range is mightily impressive.  You can now drive a modern Jaguar as well as a classic XK, with pride, satisfaction, confidence and enthusiasm.  They also have an exciting five-year-plan.

They are currently launching the new 2.2-litre diesel XF in Munich, the heart of competitor  country.  How's that for confidence!

New Parts from Club Shop Team

Our new Club Shop team are getting into their stride (see the XK Club Shop website) - and will soon launch the full range of XK ignition vacuum units made to the exact specification: for years, rebuilding original units has been the only option.

Meanwhile Colin Beever has a number of great products available through his business, www.retroclassiccarparts.com, that are bound to appeal to Club members.  The set of 1950s-style screwdrivers takes me right back to helping my Dad with his Mk2, while the stylishly packaged Emergency Kit (available in black, brown or natural leather) has to be the neatest way of carrying those essential items required for European touring these days.

We are convinced that video is going to play a bigger and bigger part in our futures, which is one of the reasons for having our digital version of the magazine. Thus we have partnered with fGear.tv (www.fgear.tv) to launch a Jaguar channel.

"Inevitably, it will take time to grow but we have already attended a number of events. I have done our two launch interviews with, appropriately, Michael Quinn (Sir William Lyons’s grandson, E-type owner and racer) and our Patron, Norman Dewis. We are also now planning an XK documentary. Watch this space, as they say!" Philip Porter

Backwater Tours - the name may be new but this is, in fact, Paul & Lynn Trill, who have organised several driving events for us in the UK South East. Not only have they been extremely successful, earning rave reviews from participants, but Paul and Lyn have enjoyed organising them so much that they have decided to throw themselves into this more seriously and offer an expanding array of two/three/four day events exclusively for the XK and E-type clubs in the UK and abroad.

The Trills already have a very loyal following and, though spaces are pretty limited, we hope that will gradually expand.

Backwater Take the Plunge

This month (November), we have had a Representatives' meeting here at HQ.  We were thrilled that a good number were able to join us, including quite a few from overseas.

This was a great opportunity for us to listen to their ideas, their feedback on how we are doing  and an opportunity for them to understand the challenges of running such a focused club today.

It was very much a stimulating day of brian-storming and idea swapping that was very positive indeed.

If you have any ideas you can always contact us direct.  We may be in our 15th year, but we  are all as keen as ever to run the best possible club we can.  And we are always looking for ways to improve.

World XK Summit

The Historic Motoring Awards, 2011 took place in London on 16th November. Martin Brundle acted as Master of Ceremonies at this prestigious event when leading figures from the historic motoring world gathered.  Twelve award categories were judged by a panel of renowned experts, including Derek Bell, Tony Dron, Jay Leno and Nick Mason.

We are absolutely thrilled to report that Philip Porter won ‘Book of the Year’ for his new publication ‘Ultimate E-types – The Competition Cars’. Judges were looking for a ‘truly outstanding book that would stand out above all others’ – what an accolade!
