Liège-Brescia-Liège – an Alpine Adventure for XKs - July 12-22, 2012

We are delighted to be having another of our popular technical seminars, thanks to Classic Motor Cars. Based at their impressive premises just outside Bridgnorth, participants are split into four groups of about 10 and spend an hour with each of four CMC guys. Please let us know what topics you would like covered and we will do our best to oblige.

The cost will be £30, to include home-made sandwiches and cakes. Starts at 10am and concludes about 4pm.

Sussex Backwaters - April 29 - May 2

Normandy Landing Beaches/Chateau Tour - June 3 - 4

This unique three-night, four-day tour is limited to five cars only. Stay as personal house guests at a 19th Century Château, a house in typical French style with rooms of individual character delightfully situated within its own partially wooded grounds and set amidst Normandy’s loveliest countryside. The first evening’s dinner is followed by a presentation by our host (an ex-Royal Marine officer), explaining in more detail the history of the D-Day landings to help you gain more from the following day’s tour. Next

Buoyed by the success of their recent South Lakes Tour, Mike Griffiths and Sylvia Percy have fulfilled their promise to revisit Scotland. The Tweed Valley Tour will be based at the Peebles Hydro Hotel, no strangers to hosting motoring events – they understand us. Peebles is ranked as one of the top Independent Retailing Towns in Scotland – ladies please note – has great gift shops, divine shoe shops and clothes stores etc. Peebles is situated in one of the most beautiful and unspoilt regions in Scotland. Ringed by the Tweedsmuir and Lammermuir Hills to the north and the Cheviots to the

Liège-Brescia-Liège Rally - July 12 - 22

Editor Malcolm McKay reports a terrific response to this ‘first’ for the XK Club, a competitive rally exclusive to XKs and E-types (plus, of course, C and D-types and replicas, all competing in their own classes). See page 44 for news of a fun pre-rally meeting on December 3 for anyone interested.

While having a competitive rally to ourselves is immensely appealing to some, Malcolm realises that not

This will in no way dilute the competitive element for those who already enjoy classic rallying or would like to give it a try. Superb driving roads and an innovative system of route checks that score competitors on accurate navigation, time-keeping and observation as well as driving skills on fun special tests, appeal to all from the most experienced crews to complete novices. And there’s a table-full of trophies to be won at the final Prizegiving Dinner!

day there will be a private guided tour by our host to the D-Day landing beaches. This is a detailed tour (includes lunch), which gives you a full insight on this historic event. On the second evening our hostess will give a light-hearted presentation on the history of places you will pass through on your tulip run next day. This is an 87-mile run in the true Backwater tradition of quiet roads and interesting sights – a mix of working harbours, beautiful beaches and lovely scenery, with a chance to visit a renowned French delicatessen. We have deliberately differed from the normal run conventions, letting crews choose where and when to make the coffee and lunch stops, as each will each have different priorities and the route book is written to take this into account. The tour starts from Cherbourg and is inclusive of pre-dinner drinks, four-course dinners with wine, breakfast, the WW2 tour and transport and en-suite accommodation. Ferry cost and lunches are not included (lunch included on D-Day tour day). Cost is £575 per person, booking and more details on www.backwatertours.co.uk or email paul@backwatertours.co.uk.

Goodwood Revival - September 14 - 17

everybody wants to be competitive while on holiday, so he is working on a more relaxed Touring option for the event. This will allow participants to dip in and out of the competition and to take a shorter or easier route on some days, either to spend more time on visits along the way or to enjoy the delights of the many fine hotels included.

No car modifications are needed to do well, just reliability, a good relationship between driver and navigator and a shared enjoyment of driving beautiful cars through stunning scenery. The entry fee of £1995 per person (if two people share a room) includes 11 nights’ accommodation in top hotels, virtually all meals including lunches, mechanical back-up, all maps needed, rally plates and route book, entry to museums, castles and other attractions en route and much more: see www.classicrallypress.co.uk  and email LBLrally@aol.com  or phone 07711 901811 for Regulations and Entry Form. Speedy contact to secure a place is recommended: prices must go up after 30 November!

Tweed Valley Tour - June 10 - 14

south, with the River Tweed flowing through the middle, the Scottish Borders offer wonderful motoring experiences. Visits to the Jim Clark Room in Duns, East Fortune Museum of Flight, Rosslyn Chapel (of Dan Brown fame), Traquair House, Floors Castle, historic houses and gardens are planned. 25 bedrooms have been secured at the hotel, all facing out over the valley. No doubt the Tour will be over-subscribed, so do please register your interest with Louise. A £200 deposit per room will guarantee a place on this superb tour.

CMC Technical Seminar - April 14

The 2012 Club Weekend will be based in The Midlands, at Prescott Hill Climb just north of Cheltenham, close to the M5 and easily accessible to Club members countrywide, and hopefully from mainland Europe. Provisional plans include an informal drinks and supper gathering on Friday evening, a drive around The Cotswolds on Saturday, a super, more formal dinner on Saturday evening, and Sunday at the Hillclimb with a dedicated parking area for

members’ cars and our usual Club facilities. You will be as welcome taking part in one event as the whole weekend and I’ll be able to make suggestions for accommodation locally. More details will follow.

Goodwood Revival Start-line Grandstand seats, for XK Members
four days - three nights

The Goodwood Revival is the world's largest historic race meeting, which relives the glory days of the historic Goodwood Motor Circuit. But the Revival is far more than a series of races for historic cars, it is a magical step back in time, a chance to get away from the modern world and revel in the romance of motor racing as it used to be.

The lovingly restored circuit is unchanged from its heyday (1948-1966) and great lengths are taken to ensure that everything on-site is exactly as it was, from the fashions to the flying machines and the cars to the catering. This is motor racing at its most theatrical, with competitors and enthusiasts dressed in 1950s period costume for a weekend of excitement and nostalgia. Join us for the 2012 Goodwood Revival! Once through the gates you enter a different era with thousands of visitors lost in a romantic tribute to Fifties and early Sixties style. Amazing flying displays celebrating Goodwood's past glories, combined with outstanding historic racing has prompted the international press to herald the Revival as the best motor racing event in the world.
