27 March 2010 - XK & E-type Technical Seminar

Join us at the ultra-impressive Classic Motor Cars premises in Bridgnorth (central UK) if you would like learn more about your car, improve your skills or just know more about the subject. Always well-attended, which is why we are repeating this event, the technical seminars are packed full of useful, practical information, and are stimulating, enjoyable and good value. You will receive over four hours of advice and discussion in groups of nine on four topics and with four experts.

There will be one-hour sessions with Peter Wilson who worked in the Jaguar Competition Dept in the ’60s, Andrew Turvey on engines, Tim Griffin on bodywork welding and Tom Hampton on trim and interiors. Nick Goldthorp will be overseeing matters and Philip Porter also hopes to be there. These sessions may be subject to change.

27 March 2010 - XK & E-type Midlands Dinner

We shall be hosting an informal Midlands Dinner on Saturday 27th March, after our technical seminar at CMC Bridgnorth. The following day, Sunday 28th March, is the Jaguar Spares Day at Stoneleigh, so make it a fantastic Jaguar weekend!

April 16 - 18 Cotswold Weekend

A two day tour winding through the pretty and scenic roads of the Cotswolds. This route includes small country towns, chocolate box villages and typically English countryside.

 

“The most English and the least spoiled of all our countrysides” wrote JB Priestley in 1933.

 

The honey-yellow stone towns and villages of the Cotswolds have enchanted visitors for generations and it is a perfect touring area with quiet, meandering roads and quaint architecture. The Thames has played a major role in the history of England through the centuries. It rises in the Cotswolds and flows some 210 miles to London and the sea. Villages and towns are scattered along its banks with pleasant walks and delightful scenery. This region is an area of outstanding natural beauty and our suggested route will take you along the most scenic drives, and offers plenty to do and see.

April 24 - 25 Northern Dinner Weekend

Following on from last year’s successful and inaugral XK Club Northern Dinner, the 2010 dinner will be held at the Coniston Hotel in Skipton, North Yorkshire.

 

We are priviledged to have David Kenworthy as our guest speaker. David was formerly Chief Constable of North Yorkshire, and now the Chairman of the Institute of Advanced Motorists.

 

This year we shall also be including a Sunday Run, devised by Mike Griffiths. Sunday 25th April is National Drive It Day, so this is a great opportunity to get your XK on the road in what will hopefully be some lovely springtime weather, and a chance to explore the local area. The price for the Sunday Run is £35 per person, which includes a two course lunch back at the Coniston Hotel.

July 8 - 12 Le Mans Classic

The Clubs (XK and E-type) will be attending the Le Mans Classic for the first time with a display of cars inside the circuit.  We are keen to encourage as many members as possible, particularly from Europe, to join us. To obtain a special, half-price package for our members, we need to know numbers by the end of January at the latest, please.

 

Enjoy three days of classic cars and races at this prestigious and famous venue.  The special Club rates are as follows:

1 - General Admission + Paddocks: €45 per person

2 - Grandstand access (subject to availability): from €10 per person

3 - Free acess to the Car Club Enclosure inside the circuit for Pre-'66 cars + 'Happy Fews' list (pre-booked only)

4 - Track laps on Saturday morning: €120

5 - Modern Car Park (outside the circuit): €15

Applications must be through the Club to be in the specific area and to have these very special low rates.  We are trying to organise as much accomodation as possible, so please let us know as soon as you can if you require a room.  We hope to be able to offer self-catering and B+Bs, as accomodation is strictly limited for this most popular event.  Classic Travelling can also book your ferry crossing with either P&O Ferries or Brittany Ferries, therefore offering a wide choice of ports into France.

May 23 Sussex Backwater

It is planned to start from Goodwood Motor Circuit (Aero Club) at 9:30am and finish at the Spread Eagle, Midhurst for a late lunch.  We have reserved our own room for lunch which will consist of 2 courses and coffee to follow.  There will also be a coffee stop along the way the cost of which is not included in the overall price in case people wish to make their own stops.

A 'tulip' route has been planned complete with 'observational' clues around the lanes and byways of the Sussex Downs.  A prize for the highest and/or the most inventive answers to the clues will be given.

 

We have to make an upfront commitment to the hotel so we are asking for payment in advance of £25.00 per person with a maximum of 12 cars on a first come, first served basis.  This is a non-profit activity and any funds which are surplus to costs will be donated to St. Wilfred's Hospice, Chichester.

May 7 - 9 Eleventh Dutch XK weekend

This year the Dutch section of The XK Club is organising its, by now, traditional weekend in early May at Noordwijk on the coast.

 

We will assemble for pre-dinner drinks at the Oranje Hotel on Friday 7 May and finish after lunch on Sunday 9 May.

 

Details of the weekend will be forthcoming later, but you can count on drives in our great cars amidst the beautiful bulbfields.

 

The cost will be around 750 Euros per team including two nights in the hotel with breakfast, a few drinks, two dinners, lunch and parking in the hotel garage.
