October 16 - 18, 2009: Cornish Cornucopia, UK

Experienced Club tour manager, Ricardo Galvani is organising a tour of Northern Patagonia, starting with two days’ sightseeing in Buenos Aires. The tour (not a rally or competitive event) will involve his usual combination of cultural visits, splendid routes and excellent hospitality spread over 20 days

Richard writes: “After taking in a Tango show, going to a Polo Match and seeing the sights in the Argentinean capital, participants will fly down to Bariloche, in the lake district of Patagonia, to link up with our cars (which will have been shipped out). The following two weeks will be spent with a mixture of driving on open roads, relaxing in amazing hotels and seeing the main attractions of this unique landscape. Patagonia is a vast wilderness of glistening lakes, barren plains, spectacular mountain ranges and rugged coastline.”

If this one-off event appeals to you, please register your interest as soon as possible by sending an email to ricardogalvani@googlemail.com

This tour is based at the Headlam Hall Hotel, Headlam in Durham, assembling on Sunday evening evening with three days' driving, Mon to Wed, dispersing Thursday morning.

This tour will feature the rolling moorland of England's last wilderness, to quote Dr David Bellamy.  New routes, new coffee and lunch halts and some surprises! More details & price in the January 2009 XK Gazette.

One thing is sure and that is that future tours will be more expensive with fuel costs, hotel rates etc all escalating.  We will strive to get value for money but no one seems ready to accept a lowering of standards - not least ourselves, that is Sylvia and me.  Mike Griffiths, tel (0)1524 761139, fax (0)1524 762665

A Very relaxing weekend especially organised for E-type and XK Club members.

Join Fiona and Paul Abadjian (organisers of 2008’s Steamy weekend in Dorset) to discover the enchanting old world charm of Cornwall.

Based at the superb four-star Carlyon Bay Hotel in St. Austell, the tour will follow winding rural roads and take in stunning coastal scenery. Participants will have the chance to:

  •  Visit a cider farm owned by the Healey family (as in Austin-Healey)
  • Lunch at the Tate Gallery in St Ives
  • See St Michael’s Mount and take cream tea at the National Maritime Museum.
  •  Ferry across the River Fal
  • Drive the Tregrehan hillclimb course
  •  Visit the stunning Elizabethan home of the Prideaux-Brunes for morning coffee.

Paul writes, “This is a packed weekend indeed – but we are considering extending it, for those who have the time, to include a ‘dinner evening’ on board the Bodmin and Wenford steam railway on the Sunday night, with possible golf on the Monday”.

If you would like to know more, call Paul or Fiona Abadjian on +44 (0)1258 837276 or mail@retroclassics.com.

September 5, 2009: XK Club Belgian Drive

Thierry Centner, our Belgian representative, is organising a one day drive starting with a friendly brunch in his New England style property (fitting perfectly with the XK style) in "Beagles' Hill" in Hoeilaart, South-East of Brussels. The purpose is to focus on exciting driving with full consideration given to the co-driver (who usually spends more than 80% of his/her time with the nose deep in a road book!)

The brunch will begin at 8.30am. At 10:15am the group will depart for a stunning drive covering the well known East/South-East of Belgium. The drive will cover about 280 km in total and will explore plenty of new ‘green’ roads. Each car will receive a full-coloured large scale map with the route and clearly marked details (eg. coffee break, meeting point, places of interest). The drive is expected to finish 6.30 -7.00pm in the Citadelle of Namur (a central place to allow participants to drive back home in the daylight). The cost per car (2 persons/car) will be 95 euros (including brunches, map, rally plates, external chemical toilets, etc).

If you would like to participate, please contact Thierry at thierrycentner@gmail.com for an Email Registration Form and further details.

September 6, 2009: Cotswold Picnic

At Flagstone Farm, between Stow-on-the-Wold and Broadway. The farm has 12 acres of fields and woodland in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Jeff Whitney has very kindly invited everyone who can make it to bring a picnic or barbecue for an informal get-together between around 11am and 4pm.

October 18, 2009: David Gandhi Memorial Run & Lunch

Another great day out from the irrepressible Mike Griffiths.  Tel: 01524 761139 for more information

September 9, 2009: Classic Car Day, Nr Paris

Bernard Cristalli has sent information about the SA Club’s Classic Car Day on September 6. This is an English-speaking sports and social club set in the beautiful forest of Meudon la Foret, just 10km from the centre of Paris. The day will begin at around 10.00, followed by a BBQ lunch and competitions. After tea and the prize-giving, departure is around 17.30. For more details, visit www.saclub.org.

August 15, 2009: Informal Gathering at Pebble Beach

Paul McNabb writes: “We are having a very informal gathering during Pebble Beach week. If Club members are in town, please try to drop by the Monterey Marriott Hotel (Calle Principal, Monterey, CA 93940. Phone 831 647 4003) 4-6pm at the Characters’ Sports Bar. We will have a cash bar and bar meals. No need to RSVP. Look for a Jaguar emblem or just follow the noise. Hope to see you there.”

It’s that time of year again!

We are putting together a weekend crammed with XK activities, which we have broken into components - so you can do as little or as much as you choose.

August 15 - 16, 2009: XK Club Day/Weekend, Wiltshire, UK

Saturday 15 August: XK Club Day

Our revitalised XK Club Day celebrations move to Wiltshire and the beautiful house & gardens of Club Members Michael & Marie Brind.  There will be live music, a bar, competitions and craft stalls. Jaguar XK specialists will be present in abundance and a hog roast lunch is available (alternatively why not bring a picnic?)

Saturday August 15: 50s-Themed Party & Dinner

As the sunsets on XK Club Day, the marquee will be transformed for our early 50s-themed party. Dinner will be provided and there will be live music fifties style from The Cruisers. So get your dancing shoes ready!

Sunday, August 16: XK Sunday Run

This year we will explore the highways and byways of wonderful Wiltshire. The exact route is still under-wraps but it is sure not to disappoint.

July 25, 2009: RetroRun at Silverstone Classic

Organiser and member Dermot Bambridge writes: “The RetroRun is for classic cars over 20 years old and takes place on the Saturday of the Silverstone Classic. There will be at least four start points all within c50 miles of Silverstone and the route is about 100 miles. The cars start at 2 minute intervals between 7.30 and 9.30am, and about 75 cars will depart from each point. Arrival at Silverstone will be around lunchtime, giving you the entire afternoon at the event. There is exclusive infield parking for all three days, and a parade lap of the circuit on Sunday.

The cost is the same as last year, £99 per car and gives entry for two persons on all three days of the event, entry to the rally, road book (tulip style), exclusive parking, a parade lap and a rally plaque. The big news this month is that our group of XKs and E-types will start from Browns Lane where the JDHT Museum is based. The Museum will be open and the route will include a number of points of Jaguar interest.

“This year we will have an exclusive XK/E-type route for the XK and E-type clubs.”

chefs of the ‘Brandenburger Hof’, a hotel in Berlin.
