NEW: UK-Dorset – Sunday 28 July, D-Day Centre & WW2 Museum to the Symondsbury Estate

From Paul Abadjian: “Starting at 10-10.30am from the  D-Day Centre & WW2 Museum  Admiralty Buildings, Castletown, Portland DT5 1BD.

“This wonderful small museum was established by E-type Club member Derek Luckhurst, and is very informative, as well as unusually ‘hands on’! Entrance for our group will be a discounted £8 per person and Derek will allocate dedicated parking outside for our group. There is a café opposite for breakfast/tea/coffee etc., which you are welcome to bring back to the charming period café in the museum! It is the 80th anniversary of D-Day this year, and as a large part of the force set off from this point in Dorset it is a poignant and pertinent starting point for our day.

“There will then be the customary winding and scenic route taking in Portland itself, then the Jurassic Coast and lovely inland country lanes…leading to the Symondsbury Estate.

“This is an imaginatively repurposed historic estate, the old farm buildings which now house an interiors shop, and very chic ladies clothes shop, a great café and restaurant, and an art gallery. They also have donkeys, pigs and chickens in enclosures, a good BBQ spot, and, if you are feeling energetic a fascinating 1.5 hour circular walk going up The Holloway (see last photo) with it’s historic rock carvings! Dogs are allowed.

“We will have reserved parking there, and you can either bring a picnic, or book for lunch (last orders 2.30!!)

“We will all pray to our particular Gods that we have the polar opposite weather compared to last year, and we hope to have a great turn out!!

“Please let me know if you would like to join us, and we will fill in the blanks in terms of detail and route in due course, as always.”
